As part of the “KlaipeDance” international artistic cooperation project, Joanne Leighton was invited by the CCN de Caen en Normandie to create a piece with dancers from the Šeiko Dance Company.
KlaipeDance is a contemporary dance cooperation structure supported by the City of Klaipėda, the University of Klaipėda and the French Embassy in Lithuania, in partnership with the CCN de Caen Normandie. After a 5-week residency in Lithuania, Flocking was premiered on January 27, 2023.
Following on from People United, and based on an atlas of some 900 photographs taken at moments of gathering, Joanne Leighton leads eight dancers from the Šeiko Dance Company in a piece based on the universal gestures we all share, gestures common to gatherings the world over. Joanne Leighton invited Romain de Lagarde to join her in creating the lighting for the piece, Peter Crosbie composed new musical pieces and a Lithuanian costume designer worked with Joanne on the creation.
