How many times have you picked up a stone — flat, slightly rounded — to skip it across the water, in a simple, almost instinctive gesture, hoping to see it ricochet off the surface ? With each bounce, with each repetition of the movement, a rhythm takes hold. The stone strikes the water, our hand refines the action, and little by little, we enter a cadence, a pure present suspended in time.
Created for young audiences — and public of all ages — from 6 years old, two dancers move within a circle of stones, where gestures transform into rituals, driven by bounce and rhythm. Ricochet is a visual and sonic poem, a playful contemporary folklore danced by four feet in sneakers. A delicate, light journey that skips the everyday into the realm of the fantastic and the fabulous.
“Stones are objects of reverie.”
Roger Caillois
Through movement and rhythm, this piece explores the ephemeral beauty of motion rooted in repetition — a kinetic response to impact, resistance, and rebound. In an intense interplay between bodies, rhythm, and space, it examines the games we invent together and our shared creative imagination, where physical echoes follow each action, carried by an irresistible energy that continues to resonate long after the initial contact.
Ricochet is designed to inhabit all types of spaces, whether large or small, from traditional theaters to off-site or site-specific locations. The performance is adaptable with or without lighting setups, depending on the context. The dancers set up and perform anywhere : on a stage, in a community hall, on a town square, or in a park, as well as in dance studios, public spaces, urban sites, museums, galleries, or theater lobbies.
“Play is a free, separate, uncertain, unproductive, rule-bound, and fictive activity.” Roger Caillois, Man, Play and Games (1958)
